The New Mexico Developmental Disability Workforce Training Center

The New Mexico Developmental Disability Workforce Training Center (NMDDWTC) is creating an integrated path to a purposeful existence for deaf/ hard of hearing and adults with developmental disabilities across New Mexico, leading to a unified and inclusive community.
The NMDDWTC is developing a postsecondary workforce training system to empower adults with developmental disabilities and individuals who are deaf/ hard of hearing to close the post–K–12 employment gap. This effort aligns workforce training, industry engagement, and long-term economic opportunity for individuals ages 22 and older.

ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGE:

Scarce opportunity for adults with disabilities

When individuals with developmental disabilities age out of the public education system, access to coordinated services and workforce opportunities sharply declines.
Extreme lack of access and services for DD and deaf/hard of hearing adults when they complete K-12 system.
Workforce supports are fragmented and difficult to navigate
Existing systems are misaligned with employer needs

Families are left to bridge gaps without infrastructure or guidance
This gap represents both a social inequity and a missed economic opportunity for New Mexico.
